Today, I spent the day observing hip replacements. I think the things that stuck out the most to me today were the effects obesity has on your body, especially your joints. We met a patient whose knees degraded from mild arthritis to severe arthritis with complete cartilage loss within just a few months. Dr. Anderson said that the most common, preventable surgery he sees are joint replacements in obese people. Our joints aren't meant to carry that much excess weight, and we can do real damage to them.
