Self-Portrait Project
For this project, we were asked to create a self-portrait representing how we've grown as students and people this year. I created this picture because I wanted to convey how I've been focusing on who I am inside this year. When I started school, I made a commitment to myself that I'd let who I am on the inside come out and show on the outside. I got tired of being the chameleon; I spent all my time making myself into something likable to whoever I was around. This is me: I'm simple. I find the little things that make me happy, and it helps me encourage the people around me.
Why is it important to understand the intentions behind an artwork? A self-portrait in particular?
I think it's important to understand the intentions behind an artwork because it tells a lot about the context of the art. A large amount of art is what the observer takes from it, but that can be influenced by the intentions of the authors. A self portrait is even more important because the intention behind a self-portrait is to have a visual representation of how the artist pictures themselves on the inside. How are the characteristics and expressive features of art and design used to create a self-portrait? Self portraits use all of the concepts of art and design, but they have different meanings. In my mind, each art concept has to fit together to tell the story of the artist; they end up having more meaning. They still have to fit together to make an aesthetically pleasing portrait, but it has to do much more. |
