Energy and Place Project
Essential Questions:
- How does energy production and consumption impact place?
- How does your sense of place, environmental ethic and understanding of our energy needs influence your perception and decisions relating to energy production and consumption?
-What did you learn about the nature of science by researching, designing, conducting, analyzing and writing about your own investigation? How has this shaped your perspective about science and scientists?
I learned a lot about how precise scientists have to be in their research. Science is an unforgiving field, and you have to be careful in everything you do. Also, you have to accept a fair amount of risk. The beginning of this experiment required a lot of risk assessment, because of the radiation exposure. Scientific advancements require risk, and some involve risk to your life. -What were you trying to convey to your audience through the creation of your info-graphic? Explain your rationale for focusing on this particular topic/question. I focused on this topic because through the research I did for this lab, I found a lot of facts that contradicted things I thought about radiation. The way it's used is a lot safer than commonly thought, and I think it would be more widely accepted if the public was aware of all of the more common misconceptions. There are still long ways to go before it's completely risk-free, but it's farther along than most people think. |
